Questions & answers
How the calendar sync, checklists, coins, and games work.
How does the calendar sync work? Do I have to do it every day?
No. Once a calendar (a Canvas / Google Classroom / portal
.ics link) is connected, qivo quest re-pulls it automatically twice a day — early morning and late afternoon — plus a quiet refresh whenever you open a kid’s board and it hasn’t updated in a while. The ↻ Sync now link on the board is only there for when you want it refreshed this second. What is an .ics link and where do I get it?
It’s a read-only calendar feed — a URL ending in
.ics. In Canvas it’s under Calendar → Calendar Feed; Google Classroom and most district portals have a similar “export” or “subscribe” option. qivo quest only reads assignment due dates from it — it can’t post, grade, or change anything. The link is encrypted before we store it and is never shown in full again. What's the “quick check” when my kid marks something done?
One question — “Did you answer every part of the assignment?” — before the box ticks. It’s a two-second pause aimed at the points kids lose to skimming the directions rather than the work itself. It doesn’t read the assignment or check anything for them; the point is the habit of stopping to look. Tap Not yet to go back, Yes to finish.
A calendar says it “needs attention” — what happened?
Schools rotate these links periodically, so a feed can go stale. Open the calendar panel on the board, disconnect the old one, and paste a fresh link. Assignments you already finished stay on the board as history.
How is this built for ADHD?
A few deliberate choices: one “do this first” task highlighted instead of a wall of to-dos; the reward lands the instant a task is checked off, not at the end of the week; plain-language due dates (“Due tomorrow” beats “9/12”); an optional focus timer; and a single calm check-in email a day instead of a stream of notifications. The kid is saving toward one thing they actually chose.
How do coins work?
Every finished assignment pays coins the moment it’s checked. There’s a daily bonus cap so a kid can’t clear a month of work in one night for a windfall — past it, tasks still count and still check off, they just stop adding coins that day. Coins are spent in the Garage / Shelf to unlock the collection.
What are the games?
Finishing work earns a play token (bank up to 3). On the cars board that’s Coin Rush, a 15-second coin-catch; on the squishies board it’s Squish Swap, a trading game. Both pay a capped number of bonus coins and never touch what the kid has already unlocked. Clearing the whole board arms a ×2 round.
Can I switch worlds?
Yes, anytime — the Worlds switch sits at the top of the board. Coins carry over; each world keeps its own unlocked items and progress.
Multiple kids?
Add as many as you like — there’s no cap, and one subscription covers the whole family. Use Menu → Switch / add kid. Each kid has their own board, collection, and check-in settings; the name in the top-left switches between them.
What can the parent see?
Check-in (the button on the board) is your one-screen view for each kid: what’s due this week, what’s overdue, the on-time rate by subject, the current streak, and coins banked. The daily check-in email is the same picture, sent to you. Profile is where you rename a kid; Settings holds the email, sound, and phone-alert options.
